VINTAGE HALLOWEEN TRADITIONS!

Because of the long and storied  history of Halloween , there are many Vintage Halloween traditions that have been associated with the holiday for many years. Halloween, or All Hallows Eve   as was called long ago, has a very special history all its own. The many vintage Halloween customs set this Halloween apart from many other special occasions. The origins of many vintage Halloween traditions are both very colorful and diverse. What we know as modern day Halloween traditions and festivities are rooted in the Vintage Halloween traditions from the original All Hallows Eve   celebrations from centuries long ago.    All Hallows Eve actually evolved from an even older tradition. 10 OF THE WORST HALLOWEEN TREATS!

Halloween is now over for another year and people have had sufficient time to scour through their bags of candy. Here is a list of the worst Halloween Treats that I remember from my childhood. There may be worse additions present day, in fact, I’d be surprised if there weren’t as companies seem to be pulling out all the stops to top their competition year after year with strange flavor combinations, color concoctions, etc. But, going back to my era of trick or treating, the mid 70s – mid 80s, these were the worst of the worst to discover in your trick or treat bag. I welcome feedback from everyone as to your worst Halloween Trick or Treat memories, and hope everyone got great treats this year! 10. Good n’ Plentys    Okay, there are some people who like black licorice, but for many others, and for many kids who haven’t grown into the taste yet, it is nasty as hell. Not to mention that Good n’ Plenty’s are a tease – colorful pink and whi...

RULES AND TIPS TO SURVIVE A CLASSIC HORROR MOVIE MONSTER ATTACK!!!

I love to watch old horror movies.  The new one are most of the times a little on the gory side, but the old ones are still fun to watch.  The people in these movies have no common sense.  If they had, they would all survive their little escapades  with hitchhikers, vampires, zombies and any monster in the local vicinity.  So, I submit for your reading pleasure:  Rules To Survive Scary Encounters . When the old lady or gentleman in the inn or tavern tells you to avoid a certain place, DO IT!  The locals generally know what they are talking about. Despite how late it is, drive on through.  Ignore your travelling partner's yawns, snores, and protests of fatigue and keep on going. NEVER! stay at Mom and Pop hotels.  The kids have been known to harbor homicidal tendencies. If, for some unforeseen reason, the car inexplicably breaks down in the middle of the night, DO NOT leave it's shelter.  Stay...

TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR JACK-O-LANTERN FRESH TILL HALLOWEEN!!!

Now that you've chosen the perfect pumpkin, carved a flawless design into the pumpkin and made it into a Halloween jack-o-lantern, how do you keep the pumpkin fresh until Halloween?  You must keep your pumpkin hydrated, and there are several ways of doing that.  Here are some tips for keeping your jack-o-lantern just-carved fresh until Halloween.  After you have carved the jack-o-lantern design into your pumpkin, coat the cut edges and the inside of the pumpkin with petroleum jelly.  Good old Vaseline will help seal in the moisture of the pumpkin and extend the life of your jack-o-lantern.  Vegetable oil can be used instead of Vaseline, or spray the inside of the pumpkin with hair spray.  Either of the three will seal in moisture and keep your pumpkin fresh until Halloween.  If the cut edges of your jack-o-lantern have begun to curl, soak the pumpkin in a tub of water overnight to re-hydrate it.  After remo...

10 FAMILY FRIENDLY HALLOWEEN MOVIES!

Halloween is just around the corner and with it comes loads of candy, movies, costumes, and fun! Because we already have a list of the  top 10 horror movies , we thought it might be a nice idea to do a list of halloween movies that are suitable for all ages – something the kids and adults will both love. I have tried to pick a good balanced selection of movies – not just horror movies, but movies that contain halloween themes: witches, ghosts, and all things spooky. I have intentionally excluded movie series (such as the Harry Potter series) and Halloween versions of popular shows (such as the Spongebob Halloween special). If you haven’t seen any of these movies, you definitely should. Be sure to tell us what movies you will be watching this halloween!  10. Hocus Pocus 1993    More than 300 years ago, 3 witches were sentenced to die in Salem, Massachusetts and a boy was turned into a cat (a black cat, naturally). Now it’s Hall...
