Attracting shoppers from all over the UK and beyond, the market has put Manchester city centre firmly on the Christmas map – the Christmas Market has become not just a fabulous place to shop but also a hugely popular leisure destination in its own right. No Mancunian winter is complete without a wander through the chalet-lined streets of the markets.
This year the market will be celebrating its 14th year and will take over eight different spaces around the city, each with it's own distinct character and atmosphere.
The array of over 200 stalls is mind-boggling, with mouthwatering delicacies from all over Europe. The choice is getting bigger and bigger and includes gifts, crafts, jewellery, clothes, toys and an array of food and drink. Hello,
ReplyDeleteIn my city-home, Lyon (France) each year on the 8th of December (and during 4 days), we have a beautiful light festival ("Fête des Lumières"). Everybody in town put candles on windows, and there are some light shows everywhere in the city. It's wonderful !
Thanks for the comment. I would really like to get over to Europe and see all of the old time Christmas markets. It would be better than going to the mall with all of the people and on top of that you would get unique and handmade gifts. Nothing beats the Christmas from the early days when things were so much simpler.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. :)
ReplyDeleteNear Lyon (30 km), there is a little medieval village : Perouges. At the beginning of December, they organize a little Christmas market and some middle-ages festivities with music, food and costumes, it's beautiful, one of my favourite. The atmosphere is extraordinary with all the candles and lights.
Another Christmas market to see in my area : Crémieux (another medieval village), with a light festival.
Crémieux and Perouges markets are wonderful, not the most famous in France (so there are less people than in Strasbourg for example !), but they are a must-see. If one day you come in Lyon for the light festival, stay a few days and visit Cremieux and Perouges.
